There
were five significant natural forces the engineering
team had to deal with; weight, buoyancy, hydrodynamic
lift, drag, thrust, and power. The PowerSki JetBoard™
production Igniter 330™ combines a high thrust
to weight ratio with a hull/rail design and center of
gravity placement that stabilizes the craft at all speeds.
The design also enables high-speed planing and high
thrust "G-Force" turns with simple shifts
in weight of a rear-mount.
Pro ENGINGEER WILDFIRE was 3D software used to re-design the powerski JetBoard and the SuperTorque XT Jetboard Engine for mass production on HP Work Stations.
PSI's patented two-stroke, water-cooled engine built for the PowerSkiJetBoard™ puts out 45 H.P.. The dimensions of this revolutionary new engine design is 6.5 -inch tall by 10 -inch wide by 17 -inch long. This 330cc engine currently weighs over 45 pounds. Created with an HP workstation using PTC Pro/Engineer and the new Wildfire software.
PowerSkiJetBoard™ 330 Production Patented Model
There were many challenges in designing the patented production PowerSkiJetBoard™such as the 4.5 foot patent bending flex gas tank which had to be installed into a 2.5 foot engine compartment with a reserve tank. Another design challenge was a high performance water cooled tuned exhaust system coupled with a one way valve water box silent system. This one way valve keeps the water from flowing into the engine at water level. The inflatable sealing system as used in F18's and sub-marines prevents water intrusion into the PowerSkiJetBoard™ engine compartment. The PowerSkiJetBoard™ is 3/4 sub-marine when a rider sits on the PowerSkiJetBoard™, and without the engine running it is almost 3/4 submerged under water. This design challenge was met with the PowerSkiJetBoard™ state of the art inflatable sealing system. Oh, and not forgetting that we had to reshape the combustion engine to make the PowerSkiJetBoard™ flat like a surf board to keep the low center of gravity for performance.
The PowerSkiJetBoard™ design puts the center of gravity under the rider's feet, rather than behind or in front of the ride-as is the case with similar sports water craft. Dual hydrosteps on the bottom of the hull put the pivot point directly under the rider's feet, enabling high-speed planning and turning. The hydrosteps lift the craft partly out of the water as it skims along, and direct the line of water rushing past the rails during top speed turns, stabilizing the craft.
Bob Montgomery and his team not only designed a number board hulls, but also designed a series of engines to deliverer the power and performance of a God given dream.
The PowerSkiJetBoard™ Patented Handle
The
Patented handle consists of
the grip, start/stop buttons, thumb throttle,
and safety kill switch. Sub-assemblies
are attached to a four-foot long arm-pole
consisting of steel cable and a sleeved
wire harness covered by injection molded
rubber that provides structural strength.
The grip is removable and replaceable. Scientifically
engineered finger grooves to prevent hand
and wrist fatigue are coated in cushy soft,
textured sanitex/ saniprene rubber and nylon
laid over a thermoplastic elastomer surface.
Snorkel Air Intake System. Patent Pending.
PowerThruster™ 330 JetPump Drive-Train
An axial flow jet pump Drive-Train the PSI's PowerTruster™ 330 JetPump Drive-Train delivers approximately 300 lbs. of thrust through a proprietary gear-reduction transmission. The gear reduction, built into the bottom end of the engine, is new to the power watercraft industry. It enables engineers to match the engine's optimum rpm to that of the jet pump to enhance the craft's performance.
Nose Piece T-Handle assembly. patent pending.
